The statue of Mahatma Gandhi is a gift from the Indian government to the city of Geneva, underscoring the role of Geneva in promoting peace, harmony and friendship, values closely associated with Gandhi. The gift also marks the starting point of the activities celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Treaty of Amity of Aug. 14, 1948 between India and Switzerland.
